Okay, so I haven’t been keeping up my blog the way I should! It’s really not that big a deal, spending a few minutes (think it usually ends up to be about an hour) each day. But I’m not one of those folks who sit at home all the time either. Enough of the excuses you say and rightly so. BBuuuttt, I was very busy!
If you’re one of those writers that finishes everything they start, I give you all the kudos! I have a little trouble getting everything done that I should. That’s why I periodically set myself a deadline. The deadline for the Juniper Fiction Prize was last Friday. I decided to revise my short story collection for the contest.
Now I’m not much for short fiction. I’ve had some stories published and occassionally I have an idea for a new story but I usually opt to work on one of my books instead. I know that it’s a longshot submitting a short story collection for a contest except I know my stories do get better each time I revise them. So, get that ball up in the air and send those stories or books out again.
I won’t tell you what my next deadline is (it’s for a literary novel), it’s kind of like reaching for the stars. I think it’s worthwhile to pretend that your writing is better than your humble self thinks. We are our own worst critics. Persistence counts!
